The Initiative Foundation uses a variety of technologies and partners to achieve its goals. Most significantly, Wireless LAN, also knows as 802.11(b) and (g), standards and costs are such that this technology has become a core
tool in our efforts to bring broadband cost effectively to communities. All of our networks thus far use Smartbridges wifi solutions because of the usability and cost combination that they have perfected.
In terms of the debate, open source v Microsoft, we'd prefer to remain agnostic. While it is true that Open Source presents compelling cost benefits and is increasingly user friendly, there are issues of support and consistency to deal with at times. In general, however, we take the view that we need use whatever is best placed to support the community's needs and we will continue to do that going forward.
